Well, those Canooks did it - the Canadian loonie just beat the US dollar. (First time since 1977.) I found this image on /b/, and since linking there directly will not work - I'm posting it here:
Whenever you compare the merits of Canada's political or economic structure with the United States to a conservative, they almost inevitably accuse our neighbor to the North of being a socialist, 2nd-rate country. While I don't believe either statement is true - as of today, Canadian nay-sayers will have to think of some other reason to discount Canada's liberal policies. Not only has their loonie bested our dollar, but Canada's economy is strong, they have lower unemployment, full heathcare, and no foreign wars. At this rate, the United States is increasingly looking like a second-rate power when compared to Canada. Perhaps Canada-haters can come up with a few new Celine Dion jokes?

Similar to John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich has a wife that has a mind of her own, maybe it comes with the name for Elizabeth I of England was surly a woman that could stand on her own and I think it is a welcomed change to the Stepford first wives we had lately. Mrs. Elizabeth Kuchinich in a recent Radio interview expressed her hope that her husband will not endorse any of the other Democratic Presidential Candidates.
I applaud her courage and if her husband wants to stay

A hearty welcome to the Mountain Xpress readers. I hope our local paper's focus on technology and blogging inspires Ashevillians to look into blogging as a hobby or career.
You'll notice the screenshot featured in the paper doesn't match what you see here today. (See screetnshot on left) As part of this blog's plan to become a hub for Green Party activity, I switched the CMS from Drupal to Joomla - and in the process switched the color scheme from orange to "spearaminty green." (See image below.) If that last sentance ost you - "CMS" is an aconym for a "Content Management Sysytem": A type of software most blogs use since they allow dynamic content ... such as user comments, and easily updated webpages. It's usefull to think of a CMS like a car. Just like different types of vehicles handle different types of terrain - each CMS specializes in certain types of content.

My co-workers and I learned a surprising lesson: Some of those energy-efficient bulbs can be a fire hazzard. A few months ago, the office manager installed new energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs. Last week, at about mid morning, we started to smell smoke. And lo - one of the bulbs was burning a hole an overhanging light! Here's a picture of the bulb, after we cut the power and removed it:
The bulb pictured above is a 120V 60Hz "n:vision" bulb. (SKU #: 423-599, Model EDXO-14) An electrician came to inspect the wireing later in the day, and said the transformers in bulbs can't handle dimmer switches. He suggested we either

It hasn't been a good year for proponents of the US healthcare system. In the past, when people asked tough questions about the state of privatised care, and the problems people have with their insurance companies - the industry would simply publish a few scarey stories about Canadians having to go to the US for treatment. But the old tactics aren't as effective these days, since, thanks to the internet, Americans are able to compare stories from actual Canadians with the material the industry puts out. And guess what? Most Candadians love their system, and wouldn't trade it for all the executives in New York. The movie Sicko didn't help matters. Now, even citizens who are insured feel insecure.

And we're back!
Welcome to Brainshrub.com - version 3.0. Okay - maybe ol' Jack isn't the best image to use after a 3 month-long haitus. But after everything I had to go though to get this site back online, I deserve some fun. After the "Great Spam Attack of 2007 " - blogging stopped being fun. It was simply too much effort to moderate threads, lock down posts, fight constant DOS attacks, and write content. The CMS (Drupal) I was using didn't make the job much easier. When I fixed one aspect of the site, another part would start showing problems. Since I'm not a programmer, it would take me hours to troubleshoot issues. For a while, I was resigned to allowing Brainshrub.com to become another dead blog. Thankfully, about two months ago, the local chapter of the Green Party, the Mountain Greens , made an offer: If I would revive Brainshrub.com and transform it into an online Green-friendly community for the party - they would help finaince a site upgrade. They didn't want to own Brainshrub, but they wanted an established site with solid traffic from which to reach out to the rest of the blogoshere.
