North Carolina Ballot Access History

North Carolina ranks as the 3rd worst state in the nation for open ballot access.

This means third parties and candidates are essentially kept out of elections. A simple solution is to reduce the number of signatures required to gain ballot access – a step many other states have already taken.

Bill Gates has called for "creative capitalism" - that is a philanthropy spurred on by profit. But Galés Gabirondo unmasks creative capitalism to reveal it as philanthro-capitalism. She uses the Bill Gates/Rockeffeler initiative, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, to show just how devastating it can be when good-will meets a corporate driven and market hungry capitalism.

In September 2006, the Bill & MelindaGates Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation teamed up to launch “AGRA” a $150 million Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa.

Paper Ballots and Audits in Time for Election Day 2008!

Tell Your Congressional Rep. to Vote for HR 5036 "The Emergency Election Assistance for Secure Elections Act"

Americans need to be able to trust the counting of the vote on Election Day. Paperless electronic voting is rife with computer mistakes and security problems. Only 17 states have a voter verified paper record and require an audit. With no paper record it is impossible to audit the vote and we cannot be sure the vote was counted accurately. Peace voters can only have an impact if we are sure our votes are counted as they are cast.

Digging below the surface of this crisis

Have you lost your job?

Are you in danger of getting kicked out of your house or rental unit because of the mortgage crisis?

Do you work full time but keep falling behind on your bills?

Do you find it impossible to balance health care needs with the cost of everything else—from food, transportation and education to just trying to get a little enjoyment out of life?

Don’t beat yourself up. It’s not because you did something wrong.

You have plenty of company. Many tens of millions in this country are really suffering. Your problems are not personal. Even if you did everything “right”—struggled to get an education and job skills, struggled to find full-time work, struggled to be pleasant and agreeable on your job even when you were justifiably angry over conditions—you could still be in the same boat.

Germany's Green Party is setting up a branch in the United States. The bottom-up initiative aims to bring a more international perspective to the party's work and combat anti-Americanism among some members back home.

The chapter is due to be officially founded next weekend in Washington DC. It hopes to tap into the experiences of the growing number of Germans working in the US capital in international organizations, foundations and think tanks, as well as in the media, the culture industry and higher education.

April 4 by Doris "Granny D" Haddock

 Gettysburg Speech

Eight years ago we could not have imagined what our country was headed into.

We could not have imagined how many protests, how many marches, how many letters, phone calls, emails, posters, banners, and campaigns we were in for. We could not have imagined the amazing people who have come into our vision, for good and for ill. We could never in our wildest imaginings have come up with a story about how the US would attack countries at will based on phony propaganda, how we would become a country that tortures people, how we would become a country that spits on the grave of every patriot who lived or died for our freedoms under the Bill of Rights. Just those eight years ago, we could not have imagined stolen elections, an eviscerated and cowardly Congress, or eviscerated and cowardly national news organizations that refused to see and report the obvious, or editorial pages that refused to call for the obvious. It has been a remarkable time.

An Election Without Meaning

By Peter Phillips, roject Censored

Will November 2008 bring a meaningful change to America? Will getting rid of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney without impeachment or indictment really make a difference? Will a 600 billion dollar war/defense budget be cut in half and used for desperately needed domestic spending? Will the ninety-three billion dollars profits in the private health insurance companies—those parasitic intermediates between you and your doctor—be used instead for full health care coverage for all? Will Habeas Corpus and Posse Comitatus be restored to the people? Will torture stop and the US withdraw from Iraq immediately? Will all students in public universities be able to enroll for free? Will the US national security agencies stop mass spying on our personal communications? Will the neo-conservative agenda of total military domination of the world be reversed?
