It is with a good deal of disappointment that, having conferred on the
matter with the rest of the GPPA Steering Committee, I today recommend
to GPPA signature gatherers around PA that they cease collecting
signatures except, obviously, in those areas where we have local
candidates running: i.e. the Lehigh/Northampton district of Guy Gray,
the Wyoming/Susquehanna/Wayne district of Jay Sweeney, and the various
districts involved in Allegheny County. For the rest of this season
we should focus exclusively on collecting signatures in those areas.
Collecting signatures in the rest of the state is probably a waste of
effort, since three months into what became effectively a four-month
signature efforts, our reported signature total is still less than
7000, still less than a quarter of the signatures we would need, since
there is no significant upturn in signature collection efforts, and
since and doing the math to project what might be reveals very little
possibility of even meeting the 24,666 minimum threshold.
