As a sock puppet, I sometimes wonder about the nature of free will. Is there a God, or are we all controlled by a higher power?

For example: here I am, testing the tech-help forum. Making sure registered users can make bold, italics or underlined fonts. Am I choosing to do this, or is an omnipotent being guiding me?

If I am being directed by an unseen hand - why? Why would an all-powerful being be motivated to do anything... let alone create a post to test the WYSIWYG editor and made sure the font colors work?

It seems like such a waste of time - but a God has got to do something to avoid boredom.

To quote Nietzsche:

A subject for a great poet would be God's boredom after the seventh day of creation.

On the other hand, perhaps no invisible hand is necessary? There are other options:

1. My genes are directing me.


2. Society is pressuring me to do this.


3. It's totally random.

Meh. Maybe I should stop worrying about these kind of pointless questions, and just enjoy the scenery, like this sign directs:
