McKinney Wins GPPA CaucusCarlisle, PA (May 18, 2008) - Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) caucus results were tallied at the GPPA State Committee meeting today. Cynthia McKinney was the winner, with a majority of first choice votes.
The series of GPPA caucuses were held at the county level between April 20 and May 10, in which registered Green voters cast preference votes to indicate which candidates they supported and how their vote should be transferred if their preferred candidate were no longer in consideration. The summary of first choice candidates is as follows, with the number of delegates proportionally distributed from a total of 32 delegates:
Candidate % 1st Choice Votes Fractional Delegates Integer Delegates
Cynthia McKinney 52.76% 16.88 17
NOTA (No Candidate) 14.17% 4.53 5
Ralph Nader 11.02% 3.52 4
Jesse Johnson 8.66% 2.77 3
Kent Mesplay 4.72% 1.51 1
Uncommitted 4.72% 1.51 1
Kat Swift 2.36% .76 1
John Sweeney 0.78% .25 0
Barack Obama 0.78% .25 0
The full preference ranking votes will be used by the Pennsylvania Green Party delegation to determine how to vote at the Green Party of the United States Presidential Nominating Convention to be held July 10-13 in Chicago, Illinois. The first round of voting will follow exactly the proportion of first order votes indicated above. Later rounds of voting may differ as less viable candidates are removed from consideration and the votes that were cast for them are reassigned to those voters second or third or subsequent preferences. Now that Cynthia McKinney has won the GPPA caucus, the Green Party of Pennsylvania is hopeful that Pennsylvanians will contribute over $5000 to her campaign to make her campaign eligible to receive federal matching funds.
